All new for 2011, the 5-Series is provided with three different engines--designated by the designs 528, 535 and 550. A 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder motor is conventional on 528 models; 535 designs get a turbocharged 3.0-liter six. A twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 motor creating 407 horse power provides the 550. All three designs will eventually be provided with rear-wheel or all-wheel generate, although originally, rear-wheel generate will be the only choice. Each of the designs comes with a conventional 6-speed stick shift, but a new 8-speed automated gearbox with greater super speed equipment targeted at providing greater gas mileage is optionally available. The new 5-Series also contains BMW's Stopping mechanism Power Regrowth program, which expenses battery power when the car is decelerating or braking, rather than operating the alternator all the time.
