The 5-Series is provided with three different engines--designated by the designs 528, 535 and 550. A 230-horsepower, 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder motor is conventional on 528 models; 535 designs get a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter six. A 4.8-liter V-8 motor creating 360 horse power provides the 550. The 528 designs are provided with rear-wheel or all-wheel generate, as are the 535 designs, while the 550 is only available with rear-wheel generate. Each of the designs comes with a conventional 6-speed stick move. A 6-speed automated gearbox with Steptronic move control is optionally available.
